Happy new year, small gifters! We've reached the end of the party. With 44 participants and an even 50 gifts, we're done for the 2017-2018 season.

Among this year's gifts: two podfics, seven works of art, one combination of art and fic, and 40 fics. We welcomed a significant contingent of first-timers (who are now old-timers--hi, new old-timers!) and saw folks returning for the tenth, eleventh, or twelfth times. We celebrated Solstice, Hanukah, Christmas and the first snow, and we traveled as far as the Old Spanish Trail (c. 1887) and Tokyo and the Aokigahara Forest. The master list is below. (We've tried to get everything correct, but please, if you see a mistake, let us know!)

Many of you have already done so, but please remember that you can add your gift to the Archive of Our Own, to the RS_Small_Gifts_2017 collection.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to our participants--for your creativity, for your good humor, and for getting your gifts turned in. We only needed one pinch hitter this year, for our largest exchange in a long while.

Much appreciation also goes out to our readers and commenters, who have left a total of 1,308 (and counting) comments on this site since we began discussion posts at the end of November. That's significantly higher than the past few years. Thanks for making this such a chatty, friendly, welcoming community, everyone.

And finally, a special mention for [personal profile] mindabbles, who keeps this whole operation running year after year, always with a smile. You're amazing, Min.

Happy 2018, folks! May this next year be filled with all kinds of new Remus-and-Sirius joys and adventures. (And if there has to be a little hurt along the way, lots and lots of comfort afterwards.)

Your mods,
Maggie and Min

That said, there's still...THE 2017-2018 BONUS ROUND!

Want to create one more thing this year? Want to say "happy new year!" to someone? Feeling inspired?
Every year at small gifts, we wrap up with a BONUS ROUND in early January. Create something and submit to the queue by 11:59 p.m. your time on Tuesday, January 2, and we'll post all bonus extras next week. The fine print:

* You can nab any of the prompts from this year's sign up post, OR you can remix something you enjoyed during this year's exchange (touch base with the original author or artist to ask permission!), OR you can create something of your own.

* Gifts can be any length (drabbles welcome!) and can be offered to an individual or to the community. No beta necessary.

* You don't need to be a participant in this year's fest to join in the bonus round! Everyone is welcome.

Summary: Sirius accompanies Remus to join Hope Lupin and Remus' grandfather during Christmas.
Notes: This is an AU set in the Wizarding world but with an all around happy atmosphere because who needs angst during the holidays? There are plenty of OCs because we know next to almost nothing about Remus' mother's side of the family. Naturally a lot of googling went into this. Welsh readers, know that any glaring mistakes are not intentional! Many thanks to my betas Muse, Gloom and Shaggy who turned this fic around! DCI Silver is a name for the TV show I made up for this fic.

Dig! I adored your prompts and maybe used the wildcard a bit too much! I hope you like the art to go with the fic and that you have a wonderful new year and Christmas ahead of you!

We'll end this week with one more call for introductions over here. Drop by, introduce yourself to fellow participants and readers, and get to know the other folks involved in this exchange. One of the perks of Small Gifts is that we're not anonymous, and you can make new friends and catch up with acquaintances throughout the month.

December is here, and posting begins tomorrow! And while anticipation is high, your mods want to issue a challenge to you. Already, after a week of discussion, we've left 318 comments for one another--nearly half the number of comments we left for each other during the entire exchange last year, from late-November discussion through early-January bonus gifts. Do you think we can reach the high-water mark of 2010's exchange, when at the height of Live Journal-based fandom we left a total of 2,277 comments on discussion posts and gifts? We challenge you to try! Leave a comment, even a short one, on the art and fic you enjoy. Writers and artists, engage with your audience--just as you love getting comments, we commenters love hearing back from you. Let's chat about the characters and creations we love! Fests are fun, so much fun, but comments are what make long-term community.

Who's up for a challenge?

Goal-motivated? Feeling competitive? Watching more than one fest this season? Challenge yourself by going one step further and signing up for [personal profile] capitu's Harry Potter Comment-a-thon. You join a team (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin, naturally) and rack up points for each comment made between December 1 and January 6.

Hello Small Gifters,

We wanted to drop in and interrupt the discussion post fun to say that you all are AWESOME!

We have heard from 43 out of 44 participants, either with a submission or an extension request. Thank you! Also, your response to the discussion posts is fabulous. You all are making small_gifts extra fabulous this year.

Over the next few days or so, we’ll be going through the entries that have been submitted so far to check for formatting issues. A couple of notes about formatting, and a few things we’re learning about DW:

- When we ‘reject’ a post (and we’re not really rejecting it. Why do they have to use that word? It’s so negative and that’s not how we feel about your entries) it seems to disappear completely. We can’t see it anymore and it seems that you can’t recover it. If someone knows something different, please tell us. To avoid any problems with lost entries, we will message or email you before we ‘reject’ (ugh) your entry to make sure you have a copy with all coding and such. If it is a small issue, we might decide to ask you to fix it when we post your gift to the fest.

- If you realise that you submitted your gift with an error you’d like to fix, let us know. It’s not problem to delete it from the queue and you can post again. We don’t mind rejecting you if you ask us to do it.

- The subject line is the most common issue so far this year. Please make sure it reads, “Type of gift: Title for Recipient.” In other words, if someone knitted socks with little dogs and wolves on them for their recipient, the subject line might read, “Handknitted Socks: Moony and Padfoot for Siriusheartsremus.” Another slight difference from LJ is that It looks as if you can’t insert the coding to link to a journal in the subject line — that seems to mess up the whole subject line.

That’s it for now! As always, please let us know if you have any questions at all.

Back to those discussion posts!
