Yes, you read that right: 2016. We're still wrapping up last year as we get ready for Small Gifts 2017.

Your mods apologize. We were on the verge of finishing up last January when 2017 appeared in full force and, Dementor-like, sucked all the joy out of life. (I started off joking here, but honestly, 2017 has had some very Dementor-like qualities: political chaos, natural disasters, and tragedies large and small in the news almost every day. We hope you're safe out there. Someone teach us how to cast a Patronus charm!)

But we're back this year, now posting primarily on Dreamwidth, and stronger than ever. Last year's master list appears below. Forgive us for being late!

Your mods,
Maggie and Min

2016 by the numbers: we had 36 participants and 41 gifts ranging from 350 to 26,000 words in length. One quarter of these gifts were art or art-plus-fic. Most importantly, because one of the best things about Small Gifts has always been its sense of community, we left 847 comments for each other.

ART )

ART AND FIC )

FIC )

As always, we made our best efforts to get the master list right, but if you find typos or mistakes, we'd warmly welcome the correction.

Enjoy last year's party? Come join us again! Sign-ups for Small Gifts 2017 are still going on. They'll end as claiming begins this Saturday, October 21, at 11:00 a.m. Eastern Time. (That’s 8:00 a.m. in Los Angeles, 10:00 in Mexico City, 4:00 p.m. in London, 5:00 in Berlin, 7:00 in Dubai, and 11:00 p.m. in Shanghai. Australia-Pacific folks, send us an e-mail, and we'll help you out.)

Happy 2017, Small Gifters!

We have one week of regular posting still to come, getting 2017 off to a good start...and perhaps a few additional BONUS GIFTS at the start of next week.

Announcing...THE 2016-2017 BONUS ROUND!

Want to create one more thing this year? Want to say "happy new year!" to someone? Feeling inspired?

Every year at small gifts, we wrap up with a BONUS ROUND in early January. Create something and submit to the queue by 11:59 p.m. your time, Saturday, January 7, and we'll post all bonus extras early next week. The fine print:

* You can nab any of the prompts from this year's sign up post, OR you can remix something you enjoyed during this year's exchange (touch base with the original author or artist to ask permission!), OR you can create something of your own.

* Gifts can be any length (drabbles welcome!) and can be offered to an individual or to the community. No beta necessary.

* You don't need to be a participant in this year's fest to join in the bonus round! Everyone is welcome.

Notes: Written for the prompt “time travel”, with a bit of the wild card thrown in (depending on how unexpected this character's presence is, I suppose). Thanks to the mods for their patience, understanding, and running this fest again and again! And a huge thank you to by beta [livejournal.com profile] brighty18, whose insight was invaluable. That said, any mistakes or wonkiness left are mine. The idea of Montol is a real Cornish custom, just moved it to Rowling's fictional town. I hope you enjoy this [livejournal.com profile] laroseminuit!!
