How does R/S fit into your fannish life these days, folks? Into your larger fannish career? Did they help you get into fandom, or were you already involved in another pairing or fandom before you found them? Do you read/write/draw them currently, or are they an older pairing for you? Are there certain themes or emotions you associate with them?

[Poll #1491309]

I wasn't quite sure how to answer the second part of the poll because I pretty much shipped R/S before I even knew what fandom was. I just always sort've thought they were/should be together, idk. But they're definitely my OTP and have been for a long time. :)

Well, of course they should be together! Such clever people round here. :)

i talked about this in one of the previous countdown posts - r/s is basically the ship that cemented my interest in fandom, and got me to become a more active participant. over the last 6 months, i've sort of shifted away from hp in general, but r/s will always be special :D

Well, we're glad you came back over to HP to join us. I know that an OTP or first pairing will be special to anyone, but r/s has that added life-long friendship element that is so compelling.

I started writing/drawing them in October this year, lol. I've read them since 2005 but never wrote my own, for some reason or another, despite their being my favourite pairing by far. I wrote Snape-gen, Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione, Luna-gen, but never the thing I enjoyed reading the most.

To be honest, I associate hope and redemption with them the most. Is that a really cheesy thing to say oh god

Wow, what made you decide to start writing them after all that time? I think that is probably a really unusual trajectory. Anyway, we're glad you're here!

I have no idea, really D: I remember getting back into fandom after a long, long hiatus in October and thinking "I've always wanted to do R/S" so just sort of doing it non-stop for days. I think it was because I was never quite sure I could write teenage boys, not being one myself, so I dithered over whether I should write them during MWPP (my favourite era) for years, and then never did. Only now I am and I haven't stopped R/S since I started :D

Actually, I think those are the elements that make this pairing so endlessly fulfilling. They both betrayed one another and yet even in canon forgive one another to a point of living together. Everyone wants to give them some happiness that JKR didn't grant them.
Even in AU, most writers find a way to keep their complications. Remus usually has kind of a disability or problem and Sirius is never from a big happy family...... LOL!

I've been reading them since 2005, but it wasn't until a couple of years later that I actually started writing them. They were my first pairing, and even when I become interested in other fandoms/pairings/etc. I always return to them. There's a wonderful depth of possibilities in reading and writing their relationship, which is why I'll read pretty much any and everything. It can take you to some familiar places, sure (the sort of stories/eras/events that have been written and re-written and written again), but it can take you to some wonderful new places as well. Aw, I feel all warm-and-fuzzy nostalgic about the boys now ♥

Aw, I agree the depth of their friendship is what draws me as well. Reading your comment made me feel all warm and fuzzy as well. :)

I think I've only been in fandom since 2005 so it makes sense that at the end of 2006 I found them. Bandom was my first fandom but R/S has been my OTP forever and one that fails to go away. Sometimes I write Remus/Other people and it makes me feel guilty you guuuuuys! and I can't even think about Sirius with someone else. It does not even compute.

seriously, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'm usually really open to seperate ships but Sirius being with anyone other than Remus just feels strange.

it does! I can't really see Remus with anyone apart from Sirius either, actually, but with other characters I'm really fluid with ships

sometimes I ship Remus/Snape. I feel an amazing amount of guilt about that sometimes. I want to fall on my knees and beg Sirius's forgiveness.

Also, I love your icon!

I just can't imagine Snape with anyone. The only exception is "Stealing Harry", where he's paired with Tonks, but that Snape likes Harry, so I guess it's all right. :)

I love the Snape/Tonks dynamic in Stealing Harry. It really cheers me up.

Actually, Snape/ Lupin can work for me too! Now what NEVER works for me is Snape/ any student like Snape/ Hermoine or Snarry! I think that he has a personal moral code that would prevent him from seeing any student in a sexual context.

Now I read a Snape/ Skeeter story, "A Game of Fox and Hounds" that is scorching!

R/S was my first slash pairing ever - actually, my first fandom pairing. I loved them, I worshipped them, I only read and wrote them - until HBP. I had survived OotP and Sirius's death; at first I threw the book away, but then I discovered the Beyond the Veil series and the power of AU, and I swam happily in Egypt.

But then came HBP and the horror that was R/T. That I couldn't get over. Anything I wrote or read at that time had to do with a very wimpy Remus who wanted to please so much that he accepted Tonks - my view of him hasn't changed much, unfortunately, but DH and the Forest Scene made me love the pairing again. I love afterlife stories :D

Pre-OotP was actually a great time - everything about Sirius was a huge question mark. He could be a Muggle, a half-blood, whatever the author fancied. OotP killed a lot of good fics together with Sirius.

Maybe we should have an afterlife fest? :D

R/S is the reason I really got into fandom. At first, it was just the fascination of the characters on their own (I just really, truly loved them) but once I was introduced to slash and this pairing, that was it, I was in!

I've tried my hand at a few other pairings but this will always be my fave one to write.

These days they are pretty much the only pairing that I write in the HP fandom. I do write some gen fic in the fandom and original fics, but for pairings I only write these two.

I was already involved in the fandom before discovering Remus/Sirius. I had stumbled across them in the past, but taken little or no interest in them as a pairing. I wrote gen fics with them in, but no slash.

Oops - just realised that I checked that they were my first slash pairing when they weren't. Though they are the first slash pairing I have ever written more than one story of, I did have one very short Albus/Gellert fic right before getting into Remus/Sirius fics.

I do write them currently, and read them a little. Would read them more if I had more time, but sadly these days I am kind of busy.

I can't think of any themes per se that I associate with them. I have read stories that cover just about every genre with them as the pairing.

For a while, I could only read the two of them with each other. Then, for a long time, I decided I could read Remus with just about anybody, but Sirius was only for Remus. Now I'm not as picky about either of them, but I still do twitch a little over fics that say they've never been together, even back in school. The OTP, it is strong. :-P

I started reading HP after OotP, and fell in love with Sirius right away. Since I read all five books in one go, I went seeking fanfic to heal my broken heart, but I didn't ship anyone except Ron/Hermione then. I read a ton of fics of this pairing and wrote a few stories, too. After reading one of the classical RHr stories: 'After the End' that features them together (this one was written before OotP), if in a small way, I got used to the idea that they formed a nice couple, but still didn't read much unless it was in RHr stories. I don't remember which fic made me go completely mad for them, probably one posted at FictionAlley, because at the time I checked their updates daily, but I fell hard for this ship, and have been following and reading everything I find ever since.
