Ready for the holidays to begin?
Nov. 22nd, 2008 09:54 amPOSTING BEGINS DECEMBER 1st!
First off, since we have so many participants this year (72 at last count), and since several of you have already finished up and submitted your gifts (yay!), we'll begin posting early, on December 1st. The holidays can't begin too soon, right?
POSTING GUIDELINES
So you're finishing up with your small gift? Here's what to do:
1. If you're writing a ficlet, please have it beta-read.
Remember, all fics must be beta-read before posting! Drop by the beta lounge to offer your beta services or look for help.
2. Format your small gift and submit it.
On or before your deadline (first-time participants: November 30; returning participants: December 7), you're going to submit your gift to the comm by posting directly to
rs_small_gifts, just as you'd post to any community. We're on "moderated" status, though, which means that instead of appearing immediately, your gift will go into a moderation queue. We'll approve a couple gifts every day, all month.
Once your fic or art goes into the moderation queue, it can't be altered or edited until we "approve" it by posting it, so make sure you're done before submitting--or, if you need to tinker, send an e-mail to one of your mods who can reject the post so you can change what you need to change. If your gift appears to have formatting problems, one of the moderators will "reject" it so that you can fix it.
When you format your art or fic, please:
1) Place gift type (fic or art), title and recipient in the subject line: Example: Fic: Five Times Remus and Sirius Almost Forgot Peter's Birthday for Lily_Evans
2) Make sure that your fic or art has a header that includes a clear rating. Ex: (R for sexual themes)
3) Place your fic or art under an lj-cut. Here's how to do that, if you have any questions.
A header textbox:
3. Watch the comm! Spread the joy!
Every day between December 1 and January 1, your mods will post a few gifts from the moderation queue. As soon as your gift has appeared on
rs_small_gifts, you're free to crosspost to your own journal or wherever you'd like.
As soon as you've submitted your first small gift to the moderation queue, you can go back to the list of prompts, select another prompt, and work on another gift. The more the merrier!

Date: 2008-11-22 06:42 pm (UTC)I submitted my gift earlier this week and went back to the list of prompts today (since I have way too much spare time on my hands this month). As far as I can see, one prompt (or more) for each participant has been claimed. Does this mean that we can pick any other unclaimed prompts now?
Also, does a second gift (if I claim one) need to be done within the same time limit? As a newbie to small gifts my deadline is the 30th, but my beta is not going to be around for most of the time between now and then. Obviously, I would like to know in advance if I need to track down an alternative beta or not.

Date: 2008-11-22 07:50 pm (UTC)No, second gifts can be finished later, as long as they come in before the final posting date of Jan 1.
Thanks!

Date: 2008-11-27 12:10 am (UTC)It looks, however, as if some other coding went wonky. The headers do not appear (author, title, etc.) and the entire thing is in bold. Do you have a beta who knows how to code? If not and you need help coding, let me know. My email is mindabbles@gmail.com.
We can reject this one and you can resubmit if you like. Let me know.
