Summary and/or Prompt: Snowball fight aftermath
Any other random notes, warnings, etc.: Remus and Sirius never quite clued me in, but I’m pretty sure there’s an established relationship in here somewhere. Silly, secretive puppies. Also, thank you to [profile] desetoiles for the beta!

Remus is walking back to the castle when the first snowball connects with the back of his head. He whirls around, expecting to see one of his mates there, wearing a ridiculous, manic grin, but instead another snowball smacks into his forehead. It breaks apart, and the snow begins to melt against the warmth of his skin, leaving glistening trails down his face. The sting of the initial impact quickly fades, but the few careless swipes of his gloved hand aren’t quite enough to soak up all of the moisture.

“Who’s that, then?” he calls, looking around in confusion for a person who isn’t there. “James? Peter?” There isn’t any answer, and so he tries again. “Sirius?”

Silence.

Remus shifts uncomfortably, knowing that he will once more be pelted with snow the moment he turns around. He knows – knows intuitively – that one of his friends, or perhaps all of them, are lurking about somewhere, just waiting to tackle him and get him all snow-covered.

It is a bright, sunny day, if still far too cold for comfort, and so Remus notices when the light surrounding him fades, replaced by shadow.

“Hey – Moony!”

Remus jerks around, to find Sirius standing before him, wand out and a gleeful, dangerous smile on his face. Sirius swishes his wand, and Remus looks up, just in time for the small mountain of snow Sirius has somehow managed to levitate to fall down and cover him.

It buries him quite effectively, and Remus struggles, though he gets the feeling that it’s really rather useless. He quickly comes to the decision to just lie there and make Sirius come dig him out. Serves the git right. Remus only hopes his nose does not freeze and fall off from the cold. He has a feeling it would be rather unpleasant.

Seconds pass, and Remus keeps still. After a few moments, he hears the sound of muffled footsteps coming closer to him.

“Moony?”

Sirius’ voice sounds far away, but that’s probably due to the few inches of snow currently separating Remus from the outside world. Remus doesn’t breathe and doesn’t move, and he can hear Sirius moving closer.

Fingertips suddenly brush against Remus’ cloak, and Remus nearly jerks at the sudden contact. He manages not to, however, and counts down from ten as Sirius works at uncovering him from the mound of snow.

When Remus reaches one, the snow is mostly gone, and in a stunning display of lightning-fast reflexes, Remus pushes himself onto his knees, then onto his feet and launches himself at Sirius.

Sirius yelps in surprise and the two go down, arms flailing, legs kicking and hands shoving snow down gapping collars.

In a matter of minutes the two boys are exhausted. Sirius is on his back, pressed into the snow, and Remus is sprawled on top of him. Their breaths mingle, forming small clouds of foggy air that mix and then disappear.

“My nose might have fallen off,” Remus says, once he has regained his breath enough to speak without gasping. Sirius raises an eyebrow and gives him a look, one that clearly says Remus is off his nut. Remus only grins and buries his head in the crook of Sirius neck, pressing his ice-cold nose to Sirius’ still-warm skin.

“Remus, that’s cold,” Sirius hisses, and Remus laughs, his warm breath soothing the poor patch of skin that he has so cruelly exposed to his nose.

Sirius squirms, and Remus murmurs, “Your fault,” into his ear and then pulls back, grinning down at his friend.

“Sure, let’s all blame me,” Sirius says; the corner of his mouth turns down, but Remus thinks it is more to fend off a smile than to form an actual pout. It’s endearing, but Remus certainly isn’t going to admit that. Instead, he rolls his eyes, his own grin widening.

“Sirius, you can’t play the innocent when I watched you drop all that snow on me,” he points out, ever reasonable.

“I can try, can’t I?” he replies, the down-turned corner suddenly gone, replaced by a smirk.

Remus only rolls his eyes and gets to his feet, extending a hand to help Sirius up. “C’mon – I want hot cocoa. My fingers and toes are numb. Even my lips’ve gone numb.”

That admission gets a predatory grin from Sirius, accompanied by an eyebrow waggle. “Is that so?” he says, the words drawn out and meant-to-be seductive, probably. “I could warm them up for you, if you like.”

“Could you?” Remus asks, allowing his voice to drop lower. Sirius looks almost surprised, and Remus moves closer, wrapping his hands around Sirius’ neck and bringing his lips just centimeters away. “Might take awhile – they’re quite frozen.”

Sirius blinks at him – there are snowflakes caught in his lashes, Remus notices – and then shifts forward, until his lips are just brushing Remus’…

Remus picks that moment to shove the handful of snow he sneakily scooped up down the back of Sirius’ shirt. Sirius swears and jerks away, and Remus dissolves into laughter, watching as his friend wriggles about wildly, trying to reach around behind him to get rid of the snow, but it is far too late – it is probably down to the waistband of his trousers by now. Such a shame that school shirts have to be tucked in.

Apparently realizing the futility of his actions, Sirius finally stops and looks at Remus, breathing harsh and cheeks flushed and eyes glinting with a message that is clearly, “I am going to get you for this, Remus Lupin.”

Remus gives him a cheeky grin and takes off for the castle, hearing Sirius behind him in hot pursuit. He doesn’t get far before Sirius tackles him, and then it is all sharp elbows and more ice-cold snow down shirts and quick, stolen kisses amidst the chaos.

Wouldn’t do for their lips to get too cold, after all.

This was excellent! :DDD Thank you so much. It was just the sort of thing I had in mind when I asked for a snowball fight. It also cheered me up quite a lot this morning, as I'm currently sick and trying to ignore my headache. >>;

Again, thank you. ♥♥♥ I loved it.
