PoA was my favorite book even before I caught on to R/S. I think that it has to do with the fact that Voldie wasn't in it and that Sirius, the supposed "evil" one turned out to be good. (I love the movie Spirited Away for the same reason.) I also loved it because (and this is not meant in a bragging sort-of way) I used to be a teacher and found in Remus a kindred spirit. No one else at Hogwarts really taught like that and I love him for it.
