A remarkably beautiful story! As others have commented, the style is so understated and matter-of-fact, and this makes the fic even more poignant. What a wonderful use of concrete physical objects--not just the memorable lamp, but everything that Remus gives away--to tell the story of two lives. And, of course, I loved the theme of teaching, and how Remus has to teach himself before he can teach others.
His mistake in getting rid of the lamp had been to let the memory of Sirius trump that of James, Lily and Peter. A great moment of dramatic irony. Remus is always learning about life and love, but he doesn't know the truth about Sirius yet. *misty eyed*
