Oh wow, you don’t pull any punches, do you, starting out with Sirius wondering about Remus being with Tonks. That hurt to read. And I love how realistic Sirius is, despite his not always rational levels of anger and bitterness and jealousy. The bit with the whiskey in the tea, and him wondering why people do that, was sort of perfect.
And then, of course, Remus is there, but Sirius isn’t really ready for that, because he’s still wondering about Tonks, and… ugh, my HEART!
OMG “I’m trying my best, but I’m not ready to be happy.” You really are just trying to kill me here! At least Sirius is self-aware enough to realize that about himself.
And somehow they still manage to come together, and it’s not just immediately better, but it’s a start, and that’s what they need. A start. A way in to begin again.
And that lovely ending with Harry. What a soft moment to let them have after the night before. Wonderful ending. Wonderful story. Nice job!
