Because I'm fascinated with the idea of Slytherin and the ideology of it. How much of it and their behaviour is a defence against the ingrained assumptions of others, and also their families and upbringing. Oh, my Pansy is vicious and mean and willing to fight tooth and claw for something, but ultimately she just wants to live. I suppose the best fic for that would be All I Want Is A Room Somewhere (http://community.livejournal.com/femgenficathon/42437.html) (gen) in which Pansy is on the Side of Light and Kittens, but not because she's idealistic. As for getting them together, Great Thoughts and Noble Feelings (http://community.livejournal.com/todieavirgin/4364.html) covers that one.
Ultimately I like them as a pairing, not only because I think they'd play well off each other - both being insufferable at times, a little priggish and endlessly devoted to people - but also because they give me a chance to think about how people have to grow up and get over things, and come to the realisation that these binaries just don't work. All of which got well and truly jossed of course.
