Okay, I am pretty sure that I commented on this earlier. I remember writing a comment, but, apparently, hitting "Send" is too complicated for me.
Anyway...
This was really well done and there was much to enjoy. From that fantastic opening conversation to truly lovely ending, you had me the entire time. You use magic well (and it very unique ways), but I also really love how you combined that with the Muggle world. I liked the idea of a "control room," and your vision of how The Order operated seemed very natural and true. I sometimes get the impression that JKR never really thought out much how The Order would have worked back then. Instead, it's our job to create that. And you created it well.
And your Remus was wonderful, very honest and subtle and more complicated that one often sees. And, like your vision of The Order, it makes perfect sense. I liked the way he thought about all angles of things - and embraced the awkwardness of life and love and Sirius. The ending was perfect for that. ...as close to happiness as Remus ever felt. and even the earlier comment about how sometimes he thinks of himself as a connoisseur of pain really fit this vision.
I loved Peter here, too. This bit was particularly nice. ‘I don’t know,’ Peter says, shrugging. ‘I assume the Posh Shop for Posh People who like to buy Posh Things.’
Remus laughs, startled at how good that feels, at the familiar joke: he and Peter for years, now joined by Lily, sometimes privately have to let off steam about exactly how posh James and Sirius are. These jokes usually happen after one of the two has spent some obscene amount of galleons on something frivolous like prank aids or candy or, later, booze. ‘Well, he’s never told me that,’ he says now. ‘Sofa it is for me. It’s a nice sofa, mind.’
