It's a chance to get to know other participants (or say hi again), meet our readers (hi, readers! we love you!), and while away the hours before December 1. We'll have one topic per day until November 30.

Hi, folks! I'm Maggie, one of your two mods. (Min is the other.) I'm magnetic_pole here in DW and notquitepetworth on Tumblr.

I'm a huge R/S fan. I've been participating in small gifts since our very first round, back in 2006. I love all the adult-generation characters and the mystery of how they got involved in the war at such a young age and how Peter, such a good friend, came to betray them and how Remus and Sirius dealt with the beginning of a second war. I'm also a big, big fan of femslash and women-centered stories. Minerva, Lily, Alice, Petunia, Moaning Myrtle, even Dolores Umbridge....they're all fascinating. Mostly I write, but sometimes I (try to) make art.

I also adore Korra (Korrasami!!!) and Sherlock Holmes (I've been shipping Sherlock/John since the 80s, before I even knew what shipping or fandom were).

Looking forward to seeing some returning readers and participants and meeting newcomers! M.

Argh, you caught me! It should technically be discreetly in this usage, but I made the difficult decision to go for authenticity to the source material over grammatical accuracy. It was a decision that still pains me, and would have with either outcome!

Hi Maggie, thank you for this fest! Like you, I also love the first war characters and time period, plus I'm interested in the time in between the wars too. So much that we don't know and so many possibilities!

As someone who likes backstory generally, I find the adult characters of HP to be gift. Thank goodness JKR didn't tidy everything up! M.

I definitely agree- there is a lot of mystery surrounding the first war and the marauder era characters. Especially Peter! I sort of wish we knew more but at the same time it's nice to have the empty space to fill it with our own ideas and headcanons!

Yes! It's like a little sandbox JKR left just for us. For a long while I though the First War was going to be far more central to the conclusion of the books than it was, and I was disappointed at DH. But now I'm grateful that there are still so many empty spaces left for me. And, honestly, I'm much more expected about continuing to write about Lily and Remus and Sirius than I am about Voldemort. M.

I think that the love of the older characters is how we actually met, right? Wasn’t it Nest of Spiders? I didn’t know I remembered that until right now!!

We totally met through the older characters, but I honestly can't remember how. Yikes! I've got to start writing important things down somewhere--my whole life is disappearing on me.

Also: nest of spiders seems to be deleted? What happened there? M.
