Oh, that is so heartbreaking! Sadly, I can very much things going down that way for both of them. Still, I like to imagine that, eventually, they will meet again and understand.

It's very well written, too. I like your little humorous asides, for they contrast nicely with the overall melancholy tone of the piece.
