Countdown to Small Gifts 4/7: Beginnings

How did you first discover R/S? Do you remember the first story you read? The first art you saw? What attracted you to the pairing?

For those of you just discovering our posts, we're counting down to small gifts with a series of daily discussions of the ship:
Monday, November 23: Favorite eras and genres
Tuesday, November 24: Cliches
Wednesday, November 25: Sex

It was in 2005 after the PoA movie. Remus' scene on the bridge with Harry when he talked about Lily was a catalyst for me to start thinking about the lives and loves of the Marauders. I started out trawling ff.net for Remus/Lily stories (a friendship I still find really endearing), and moved on to R/S from there.

Does anyone else remember the old Mischief Managed forum? They closed up shop years ago but that was the first fandom community I joined before finding LJ. I think I also read every story on Azkaban's Lair back then, and after that is when I got to know [livejournal.com profile] nyxfixx and later [livejournal.com profile] profcricket, my first fandom friends.

We *are* old school! The SBRL group and Azkaban's Lair were the best places for R/S. FF.net was horrible after the first few fics.

I remember squeeing when I saw my fic posted at AL! I had so much respect for the writers there (of course Canis M's fics were there :D) and I was so happy that my humble fic was in the same site as theirs.

Oh, I loved Azkaban's Lair! I remember my excitement when I got a fic accepted there. But then it shut down a month later and I didn't know whether to scream, cry, or be slightly afraid that I'd been the one to 'break' them...
