There is quite a distance between the writing and what happened at that boarding school and elsewhere in England when Mr. Bojangles was young, because your narrator tells what Bojangles told him, and you hardly use any dialogue at all. It is incredible how you, however, manage to evoke vivid images of what is most unique here. Perhaps those images look particularly impressive because of the contrast with all that telling. And we don’t really need to see so clearly all the details of another take on the young Marauders’ story, which is familiar to us. The points where you allow us to hear Bojangles’s voice stand out only better because they are few. And I enjoy watching this Remus dance, no matter what the uppity restaurant owner thought of his scruffy looks. Finally, the closing lines (with another refreshing line of dialogue) make sure this will stay with me as something convincing, real.
