Yay babbling! I love conversations like this, so it's pretty much awesomeness. And I guess I did have other words, I just didn't know it at the time. :)
Okay, I'll admit it: I haven't written any much HP fic for a long while (and the last time I wrote HP fic it was terrifying to say the least), but I got reinterested in the fandom after the release of the 5th movie/7th book, and since then have been devouring as much R/S and Marauders fic as I can get my hands on. But I've been slowly characterizing the boys as I view them, I just haven't written it down. It's all in my head.
But I love First War era, simply because of all the various interpretations and genres that fit in this 4-5 year time period. Most of my interpretations are with this time frame in mind. So, Sirius I can see as being an incredibly extroverted child, but when his parents heavily disapprove he tones it way down, not wanting to disappoint. But then Hogwarts and Gryffindor happens and he realizes, hey it's okay to be a friendly, outgoing person. But a major throwback to his upbringing, I can see, would be that no matter how much he gives to a relationship or a cause, he's still intensely private about personal things. And I think this also goes to show the closeness of the Marauders, and even they don't know everything.
And Remus is just a very quiet, introverted, detached child to me after he's bitten. He has to grow up way too fast and come to terms with the fact that, due to the extreme prejudice of the Wizarding World, he won't have many close friends, if any at all. So he just sort of removes his emotions from the equation, withdrawing into a dreamy, personal world where he doesn't have to suffer from the stigma of his condition. And while Hogwarts provided him a safe place to be open, he ends up right back in the real world after graduation where people do hate him. And with the weight of the war and the Order (and in later times, the knowledge that everyone he’s ever truly cared for thinks he’s a traitor), he just allows himself to detach once more.
But that’s just me feeling rambly. I do hope I make sense, because sounding like a raving lunatic is only fun every now and then. And I had a question: do you spend much time thinking about Peter? Because I adore Peter, especially well-written believable Peter, and you have really fascinating interpretations of the characters.
