Gracious, this was gorgeously written and oh-so very compelling. Your prose has this lovely, almost laconic slice-of-life feel to it, yet beneath the beautiful surface was this mysterious current of emotion that pulled the reader along. You captured well the subtle complexities of relationships, changes, and the aftermath of war.
This is kind of one of those pieces where I want to quote the whole thing back to you, but this passage really stood out: "And Remus, who recognizes for once in the pale nothingness that has become his life that this is something against which he has no defense, lets it happen. The darkness around them is a living thing. He is so tired. Sirius does not want to be looked at anymore, and it turns out that Remus just wants to be held. āIām sorry for what I said,ā he whispers." So lovely! I very much admire the way the house and the outside landscape become almost like characters in and of themselves. It lent the whole piece a really stunning sense of place that balanced out the heavy emotions perfectly.
