This is such a fascinating fic, E. I skimmed it originally, when it first appeared, and then I read the original and read this remix again this evening, and I'm taken with how differently the interpersonal dynamics read when the characters are women. As laroseminuit says above, Petra especially reads differently--the meanness is harder to take. And the suggestion of PMS moodiness altered my perception of Rhea's behavior, too, sad to say.
Most interestingly, I'd say that the romance at the end is harder to read--to my mind, there's a much finer line between female friendship and f/f romance and a broader range of socially acceptable behaviors between two women who are friends, making it less clear when friendship is turning into something else. (This isn't a good thing or bad, necessarily, just an observation.)
That said, there are all kinds of new ways to identify with the characters! Which I adored.
In any case, this story's gotten me thinking about some of my gendered assumptions of the MWPP group dynamic, and I'm hoping it sparks more genderswap fic. Enjoyed! M.
