I rarely stick to one genre when I write. (Makes it hard when I have to pigeon-hole it into categories on archive sites!) But real life isn't confined to genre either, and I try to mirror (or at least imagine) some reality in there, despite the magical elements.
As far as Sirius' situation, it wasn't exactly meant to be "rape" - he went to the club willingly and wanted to get picked up. It was more the "in front of people" part. He wasn't as 'babe in the woods' as Remus, but the world of VIP back rooms and the like weren't something he was really aware of. He definitely intended to go home with someone, even in spite of the drugs.
And as luck would have it, he did! Just not who (or how!) he was expecting! Hee!
James' letter was probably the most fun of all to write. I love James!
